TL;DR

  • There’s no standard price. What you pay mostly comes down to scope: how much the agency is doing for you.
  • Expect two costs: the agency’s fee, and KOL spend on top.
  • The most common waste is paying high rates for botted, low-quality KOLs who bring no real awareness.
  • Repeat KOLs on longer deals usually cost less per post and can be improved or cut based on performance.

The three ways agencies charge

Monthly retainer: A fixed monthly fee for a team and a scope. It suits ongoing community, content and strategy work, and makes most sense when a lot is happening every week, like the run-up to a launch.

Campaign fee: A one-off price for a defined push, such as a KOL wave around a TGE, a mint or a testnet. You get a clear start, a clear end and an easy way to judge the result.

KOL spend: KOLs get paid per post or per package. Some agencies pass those fees through at cost and charge a management fee, others build a markup into the rate. Either is fine, as long as you know which one you’re paying for.

What drives the price

In our experience it almost always comes down to scope: how much the agency is doing for you. Strategy only costs less than strategy plus daily execution, and a single KOL wave costs less than a full go-to-market.

Other things that move the price

  • Timeline: squeezing ten weeks of work into three costs more.
  • Markets: several regions or languages means more KOLs and more coordination.
  • KOL mix: a handful of very large accounts costs far more than a wider group of smaller, well-matched ones.

What shouldn’t move the price is how much you’ve raised. Some agencies charge more simply because a project is well funded. We don’t.

Where budgets get wasted

Botted, low-quality KOLs: This is the easiest and most common mistake, and we’ve seen agencies make it too. Accounts with big but botted or AI-driven followings charge high prices because of their follower count, then deliver impressions from nobody real. No awareness, no sign-ups, just a big invoice.

Relying on incentives: Cash incentives can kickstart growth, but if you rely on them you’re playing pay to play. Once the incentives stop, most of those users leave.

Paying for extras you didn’t need: Watch for plans that bundle in work the agency then charges extra to deliver, like a one-off landing page for a single campaign.

Sending traffic to a broken funnel: Paying KOLs to send people to a landing page that doesn’t convert wastes the whole spend. Fix the funnel first.

How repeat KOLs save money

Instead of booking one-off posts, we lock good KOLs into longer deals at a discounted rate. Then we track every post. If a KOL performs, they stay and we keep improving the content with them. If they don’t, we cut them.

It works out cheaper per post, and the KOLs get to know the product, so their content gets better over time. Their audience also hears about the project more than once, which is what turns awareness into action.

For one client we can’t name yet, we worked with a select group of 8 to 10 KOLs, each posting 8 times a month over two months. That came to 130+ posts, 800+ new registrations and 600+ first deposits.

How to get more from a smaller budget

  • Pick one outcome: A waitlist number, activated wallets or holders at TGE.
  • Fix the funnel first, before paying anyone to send traffic to it.
  • Build a roster of repeat KOLs instead of one-off posts from big names.
  • Bring in heavy support around launch windows, then scale down.
  • Measure what can be checked: sign-ups, sales, wallets and onchain actions, not just impressions.

How ITK prices

Our pricing is set by service, and each package is put together around what you need. It’s negotiable, and we don’t charge more because you’ve raised a big round.

Engagements range a lot. We’ve run one-off sprints for launches, short bursts of KOL activity and recurring monthly KOL work, and some clients have worked with us for over a year.

Clients regularly call us affordable for Web3 marketing. Kabu’s CEO said “their rates are affordable,” and Vault777’s founder said we delivered better results than agencies charging three times as much.

What that has bought before

  • A pre and post-TGE KOL campaign for Scallop across Asian Web3 markets (300M+ launch FDV, 700K impressions).
  • Onchain task campaigns and KOL activations for Artery Chain (200K+ users onboarded, 4M+ onchain transactions).
  • Presale execution and 350+ community collaborations for Sugartown, a gaming NFT collection that sold out and raised $1.1M.
